People think poems are requir’d to rhyme
Not just once, but every single time
This can lead to problems, of course
Sometimes rhymes seem to be forced
Not all poems rhyme, for example haikus
Free verse, kurals, and pentinas too
Some rhymes are so bad they’re painful
Of these especially are people disdainful
Other rhymes are simply used too much
Some words poets just use as a crutch
I have heard it said that the word kiss
Was invented by poets to rhyme with bliss
So please tell all poets with whom you converse
That rhyme is not requisite for good verse
